Braeden Syrnyk scored the game-winning goal with 1:42 left in overtime, as GBN Jr. Varsity triumphed over Hinsdale Central 2 - 1 at Edge East Blackhawk Cup Sweet Sixteen on Monday. GBN Jr. Varsity and Hinsdale Central both scored one goal to end the first period tied. Neither team scored in the second period so they remained tied. The second period ended with both teams at one goal each. The scoreless defensive battle continued into overtime. In the overtime, GBN Jr. Varsity scored one unanswered goal to win the tough game.
In the first period, soaring through for GBN Jr. Varsity, Logan Nein got a goal with an assist from Matthew Holly with 9:46 left on the clock. On the other side, Hinsdale Central's Hinsdale Central scored a power play goal, bringing the game to a tie. In overtime, GBN Jr. Varsity replied when Braeden Syrnyk lit the lamp with assists from Tyler Mulier and Jake Rabin, with 1:42 left on the clock, to take the lead and win.
Braeden Syrnyk and Logan Nein each tallied one goal for GBN Jr. Varsity. Holly, Mulier, and Rabin each contributed one assist for GBN Jr. Varsity.
This was the season opener for Hinsdale Central but GBN Jr. Varsity entered the game with a record of 52-5.
