Coaching Staff

Evan Poulakidas - VARSITY GREEN HEAD COACH

Evan Poulakidas has spent  over 25 years coaching in the Bluehawks and GBN organizations winning two state championships and numerous Presidents and NIHL championships at the Squirt, Peewee, and Bantam levels. He is in his 12th season as Head Coach for Glenbrook North. Where he has taken GBN to 4 state championship games winning the title in 2015. and 3 Scholastic Cups. Coach Evan was previously the Head Coach at St. Viator winning a Scholastic Cup in 2011 and Lake Zurich High School.

PAUL GAUGER - VARSITY GREEN ASSISTANT COACH

Paul has been coaching with Coach Evan for 16 years between GBN, St. Viator, and the Bluehawks programs. He played youth hockey for the Deerfield Falcons, the Chicago Minor Hawks, and Team Illinois and won State and National Championships with them. He also played Junior A in Canada before becoming a coach. 

BEN STEIN - VARSITY GREEN ASSISTANT COACH

Ben grew up in Northbrook and began playing hockey for the Northbrook Bluehawks at the age of five. He played one year of JV and two years of Varsity hockey and became Assistant Captain his senior year. He attended Indiana University. He returned to GBN Hockey and is an Assistant Varsity Coach.

Jeff Marks - VARSITY GOLD HEAD COACH

Jeff grew up playing competitive travel hockey in the Chicagoland area. He played high school hockey at Maine East and three years of college hockey at Illinois State University. Jeff was a dual sport athlete in college including playing baseball at ISU. Jeff has been the GBN JV Head Coach for the past three seasons. In that time, GBN has had much success  including winning the 2020-2021 State and
2021-2022  championships. 

FRANKIE PINTZ - VARSITY GOLD ASSISTANT COACH

Frankie grew up in Northbrook and began skating when he was 4 years old. He played for GBN. Hockey; one year on JV and 3 years on Varsity. On Varsity, Frankie started in two state championship games and won the Inaugural SHL Championship his senior year. He continued his hockey career in college playing at Robert Morris University. While in college, he won 3rd place in the ACHA National Tournament his freshman year. 

AUSTIN SPAHR - JV HEAD COACH

Austin currently is the Youth Hockey Coordinator for the Rolling Meadows Renegades and has coached for a number of youth, philanthropic, and college organizations since 2017.  Growing up, Austin played youth hockey for the Schaumburg Kings, Barrington Redwings, and Rolling Meadows Renegades. He then attended Saint Viator High School where he helped the team win the 2011 Scholastic Cup. In college Austin played for Indiana University's D3 team and was an alternate captain his final two seasons. During his time at IU, Austin organized a number of philanthropic hockey events including Dropping the Puck on Cancer and Pink the Rink.

ROB SCHMIDT - GOALIE COACH

Rob returns for his fourth season as goalie coach. In his first season, GBN Varsity goaltenders led the SHL in overall save percentage (.924) and JV goaltenders finished second in the league  (.931). In a shortened season due to Covid, GBN Varsity Goaltenders put up an impressive .925 save percentage. Rob grew up in Barrington, Illinois playing youth hockey for the Redwings and Chargers. He attended St Viator High School where he led the Lions to the 2011 Scholastic Cup Championship and 2012 State Finals. Rob received numerous accolades, including an All-State selection, Team MVP, and the Chicago Blackhawks Goalie of the Year. Rob continued his hockey career while attending the University of Illinois  where he played for the Fighting Illini's ACHA Division One team and captured a CSCHL championship in 2013.
