GBN (11-2-1) traveled Sunday to Crystal Lake to face the Barrington Broncos in an SHL contest. The Spartans left with an 8-2 victory.

Barrington opened the scoring 6 minutes into the game but then the Spartans specialty teams got going. Josh Genin scored the 1st of his 3 goals to tie the game on the Spartans first power play with 8 minutes to play in the period. on a goal mouth scramble.

With Barrington up 2-1 in the 2nd, Genin put on a show. Killing a penalty,  Genin  stole the puck at center ice beat one defender and then snuck the puck past Barrington's netminder to tie the game. From that point forward the momentum changed.

Some of the unsung heroes of the night were the defensive core of Jordan Gentner,  Connor Katsamakis, Tobey Downing and Alan Adanin who were forced to kill off a number of penalties in the 2nd period and were short one defenseman when Kyle Burke sustained and upper body injury early in the game.

Gentner would contribute offensively  when he  put the Spartans up for good 3-2 as he scored from the right point on a power play,  this one was in the form of a 4 on 3.

GBN's Owen Just took over the game in the 3rd period scoring 3 of the 5 goals scored in the period by GBN. Ryan Sandler scored on a power play and Josh Genin netted his hat trick to close the scoring.

The Spartans for the game scored 5 power play goals and 1 short handed goal.  Shots were 45 to 15 in favor of GBN.
