The game, which was canceled last year, will take place at Wilmette Centennial Ice Arena beginning at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Admission is $5.

NORTHBROOK, IL — After it was canceled last year due to COVID-19, the annual Glenbrook North vs. Glenbrook South hockey game is back Wednesday night.

Puck drop is at 6 p.m. at Wilmette Centennial Ice Arena (2300 Old Glenview Road), and admission costs $5 (cash only) per person. Doors open for families at 5 p.m. and for the public at 5:15 p.m., according to the Glenbrook South website

A pregame ceremony will take place at 5:50 p.m., during which both teams will present a $5,000 donation to the Northfield Food Pantry, Glenbrook North Hockey Club Vice President Tina Katsamakis told Patch.

After the ceremony, the players from each team will be announced, the National Anthem will be performed, and the game will begin.

Though each club typically fundraises individually leading up to the game, this year marks the first time they've teamed up to raise money, Glenbrook North Hockey Club President Thomas Burke told Patch.

Additionally, this year Wintrust Bank is matching the teams' joint donation, Katsamakis said. The bank is also creating a ceremonial puck for each player and will conduct a ceremonial puck drop with captains, coaches, the bank's CEO and the Northfield Pantry Director, she said.

Evan Poulakidas, varsity head coach of the Glenbrook North Hockey team, told Patch that the game has been played the night before Thanksgiving for 32 years.
